DVD Description

If you want just one Star Trek DVD set in your collection, Star Trek Fan Collective: Time Travel may be it. Of the 15 time-bending episodes on the affordably priced four-disc set, two are perhaps the most acclaimed in franchise history: the Original Series' "The City on the Edge of Forever" (written by sci-fi giant Harlan Ellison) and Deep Space Nine' s "Trials and Tribble-ations" (in which the DS9 crew is cleverly edited into the original crew's "The Troubles with Tribbles" episode). The other selections are the Original Series' "Tomorrow Is Yesterday"; The Next Generation's "Yesterday's Enterprise," "Cause and Effect," the two-part "Time's Arrow," and the series finale "All Good Things..."; DS9's "Little Green Men"; and Voyager's two-part "Year of Hell" and series finale "Endgame."

One could quibble with the episode selection. Because the Fan Collectives were compiled by vote from fans, Voyager's series finale "Endgame" was included even though it was also on Fan Collective: Borg. It would have been nice to remove that duplicate and substitute the acclaimed DS9 two-parter "Past Tense," which would have been a better representation of that series than "Little Green Men" (in which the Ferengi travel to Roswell) and "Tribble-ations," both of which are deserving selections but considerably lighter in tone than the series as a whole. Also, Enterprise isn't represented at all. The only bonus features are new text commentaries on three episodes by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda. --David Horiuchi

"Time after time" Star Trek delivers!!

I ordered this set when it first came out, and i must say i was pleased with it. It has my two all time favorite episodes from Star Trek the Original Series. I would recommend this to anyone who does not have the money to fork out for the series sets. I must say though that I have noticed that the price for seasons 3-5 of The Next Generation has dropped to around $50.00 which leads me to believe that sometime in the future the price for seasons 6 and 7 will drop.

Could it be... any....more pointless, Mr. Spock?

I wouldn't watch ANY Star Trek except the original even if you had a phaser pointed at my head. Consequently, I already own the three seasons of the ONLY Star Trek that mattered, so I already have the episodes here that matter. Sure, the cover looks nice, but why should I bother with this?
In other news, can you believe that German Amazon.com has Bonanza Seasons 1 and 2, AND Starsky and Hutch Season 4, and those aren't even announced over HERE where THEY WERE FILMED!!!!!! WHY?????????

Solid collection but overlaps too much with other "best of" sets

The episodes in this set are solid, and include the classic "City on the Edge of Forever" and the wonderful Tribble and Enterpise C episodes. I also very much enjoyed the Voyager finale.

My only problem with this boxed set is that it features too many episodes featured on the other "Best of" sets. A certain amount of overlapping is expected and even desired. For example, the episode of TNG with both Q and the Borg should be included both in the Q and Borg boxed sets. However, this set has All Good Things, which will be on the Q set, Endgame, which is on the Borg set, Tribbles, which is on the Klingon set, leaving the dreadful Mark Twain time-travel story as one of the few stories exclusive to this set. A little less overlapping in the future, please, if possible.

I presume future sets will feature the Romulans and the Vulcans, but I would really like to see collections that include great one-off villains or special guest stars (Ricardo Montalban, Ashley Judd, etc.)

How about a ROMANCE set? I have a few in mind for that already.

1) ST:TNG:121 - "The Perfect Mate"
2) ST:TNG:46 - "The Emissary" (Stardate: 42859.2)
3) ST:TNG:69 - "Hollow Pursuits"

4) TOS: This Side of Paradise
[is a MUST - and, instead of City on the Edge again, how about one or more of these:]
5) TOS: Friday's Child
6) TOS: All Our Yesterdays
7) TOS: Space Seed

I don't remember romance episodes from other Trek shows, but I've read the plot of the Voyager episode Blood Fever and that looks promising. what do we think?
