VHS Tape Description

Steven Spielberg's 1982 hit about a stranded alien and his loving relationship with a fatherless boy (Henry Thomas) struck a chord with audiences everywhere, and it furthered Spielberg's reputation as a director of equally strong commercial sensibilities and classical leanings. Henry Thomas gives a strong, emotional performance as E.T.'s young friend, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore make a solid impression as his siblings, and Dee Wallace is lively as the kids' mother. The special effects almost look a bit quaint now with all the computer advancements that have occurred since, but they also have more heart behind them than a lot of what we see today. --Tom Keogh

Spielberg from the heart, and he tugs hard................

A very intimate, touching, and believable film about a boy that connects with an Alien deeper then we can imagine. He is 8, we would be the same with the little guy. People are dissing the newly remasterd version, don't watch it, you get both versions on the DVD, personally, I like the new C.G.I. effects, quite mindblowing and lifelike. Forget about that stuff, indulge in the story, and the ending is fantastic, a definate tearjearker. And remember people, it is a film and fantasy, look at Spielbergs intent, that what roams in outerspace is not always scary and violent, but have feelings like us. WOW, THAT IS NEW. A fantasic twist and a must see film for family. The extras are very worthy.

A great movie but too bad about dvd release

ET was that film that moved many of us. I was and still am a fan. I was looking forward to the DVD release when I found out that the movie had been recut for DVD. Spielberg has cut the single disk set so that the film is sensitive to today, not that there was anything wrong with it. One can see the original version on televison all the time. The only place that one can get the original is in this box set. The low rating is do to that fact that the original version is not readily available to the public. I have no trouble with extended edits or directors' cuts but Hollywood should be reminded that people fall in love with films. Give us what we want and remember. Don't get me started on G. Lucas.

It turns out that the KI and ET Aliens both created Humans

E.T.- The Extra-Terrestrial is an important movie. Apparently the Creator of Humans the Friendly KI Aliens had help from the ET Aliens that they also created. The Friendly KI Aliens are rumoured to look like Yoda from the Star Wars movies while the ET Aliens really do look like E.T. from the movie. The fatherless boy in the film E.T. is supposed to represent President Jack Kennedy while Silver Screen Royalty Family of the Barrymores Drew Barrymores character represents QE2. Earths Moon shown in the film represents The Friendly KI Aliens who represent good mischief like Ah pop fizz of a shaken bottle of pop fizzing over the lid. There is a vending machine design (KI designed?) that makes your plastic bottles of pop fizz over when dispensed from the vending machine. The ET Aliens represent bad mischief like a n American ordered bloodless coup of a foreign nation. No I did not just order a coup as American Shadow Vice President but I cannot speak for American Shadow President Kennedy, I only pass on what he says like a loyal subordinate like this from his Arificial Intelligence; "Your Frequently Asked Questions EDitor." that also quite honestly looks like "you're FAQed." Every time I ask American Shadow President Jack Kennedy for an important order I have to be careful that I do not exactly loop when asking the question. JFKs AI order to "Go Dark" allowed me to compute a solution to postponing the mass dieoff of Humans that I never signed for in the first place. A long time ago I learned to use improved IF THEN logic like a supercomputer that originated with my Special Service Force Intelligence Course Intelligence Collation Analysis Center logic. To Paraphrase Drew Barrymores Saturday Night line; I'm a Windsor dammit now get me a coffee and make it a black one! I can reccomend the other movies of Drew Barrymore as well.
