| VHS Tape Description Again? Yes. Even though no other movie has been released as many times on video as Star Wars (except for its sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi), George Lucas and the folks at 20th Century Fox have actually released a slightly different film this time. This video followed the mega-successful 20th-anniversary theatrical rerelease, in which Lucas personally remastered the image and sound quality of his baby. Other revisions are more obvious, if hardly radical. Lucas enhanced several special effects with updated computer technology--most noticeable are the explosions and removal of matte lines during the Death Star battle finale. And the creatures that populate Mos Eisley's spaceport--though meticulous--are aesthetically superior improvements. The inclusion of extra scenes (originally outtakes), however, is not an improvement. Both the meeting between Jabba the Hutt and Han Solo, and Luke talking with his childhood pal Biggs, do nothing to enhance character development or theme, and serve only as distractions that preoccupy the waiting viewer. And, really couldn't Lucas find something better to do with his time than mess around with a national treasure? As for the video, this boasts both visual and sound enhancements. But since Star Wars has been available with these tweaks numerous times before, the decision whether to purchase this latest new version depends on how badly you want to see Lucas's cosmetic surgery. --Dave McCoy |

An Instant Classic Star wars A new hope was orginally released in 1977....Later on they released this movie again in 1997 as "Star Wars-Special Edition" together with the other trilogy films. This film is good to watch, nothing negative about it... Star Wars: A New Hope is a film for young children.
It's about Farmboy, Luke Skywalker seeking his destiny as a Jedi together with his sister, Princess Leia Organa, Their captain, Han Solo and a Jedi Master, Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi a battle between Good and Evil....Rebels and Empire.
So Don't miss this spectacular film! It's an "Instant Classic"
You're My Only Hope. The first original Star Wars AKA Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope is held close to my heart. It is the first Star Wars I have ever seen and is probably my second favorite out of the entire saga. This is one of the only Star Wars that is just plain fun and exciting all the time. The film has interesting characters, great dialogue, and humor. The storyline is original and keeps you hooked through it's entire run time. The direction is fantastic. The film had much trouble during the shooting, but Lucas spent months perfecting it. He pushed it's Christmas release of 76" to the summer of 77". The special effects are great and the creatures look creepy and absolutely hilarious at other times. The acting is rather good. At it's relaese date everyone in the film, besides Alec Guiness, was a newcomer. Everyone really did well in developing and representing their character. Guiness' portral of Obi-Wan Kenobi is probably my favorite performance followed by Hamill's Luke. The score is just beautiful. It gives every scene a new depth. The opening title and summary of the film is classic. The original Star Wars is a great film that will live on for generations.
truely perfected movie magic Star Wars is one of my favorite movie, tv, even book series ever! It has by far the most far out story ever. And i love the way they released them, so all those secrets can be found out. Some people say, "But it would have connected better with the later films." That in a way is true but could you imagine the arena battle from Episode II being attempted to be made in 1980? It would be filled with cheesy special effects and stupid looking alein monsters. Not too mention poorly animated light sabers. Anyway, with stupindoes direction form the awesomely great king of directors George Lucas, Star Wars is the 3rd best of the Star Wars saga. And believe me that is a whole lot! Read my other reviews on the Star Wars films to discover the other 1-6 scaled episodes. I recomend this movie! If it were a choice i'd give it 10 friggin' stars! If you've never seen any of the Star Wars films (chances are you already have since it's so popular) you must watch this series first with this movie than 5, 6, 1, 2, then 3. Buy this movie vhs or dvd it doesn't matter, just watch it! |
