"We weren't made for the sea..."
An outstanding film, Waterworld, brings to the screen the likely scenario that the ice caps melt (they've already started) endangering mankind and threatening life on Earth. The likelihood of such a phenomenon is presently great indeed, and hopefully the film will get many people thinking.
I remember when the movie came out in 1995 the critics tore it to pieces.
I went to see it anyway, and it was great! It's about then that my faith in the "critics" took a dive, and that hasn't changed much since (e.g. I loved Kingdom of Heaven, Constantine, and so many other movies that had received bad reviews from the "professionals").
In any case Waterworld with a strong Mad Max feel to it will not let you down.
The movie is very realistic in its approach, and conveys a much needed message of the dangers facing the world, especially when dealing with issues regarding the environment. Moreover, one realizes how helpless people would be should such a disaster occur.
The Day after Tomorrow is another very good movie dealing with the issue at hand, however, instead of flooding, the world ends up freezing, which is another possible scenario to what could happen if people tamper with nature too much.
Kevin Costner, Jeanne Tripplehorn (who is GORGEOUS!), Tina Majorino, Dennis Hopper, and the rest of the cast, have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)! Very well written and very well presented, it allows for a highly entertaining movie that can be watched over and over again!
The setting, the plot, the dialogues and the music are all wonderful!
In short, Waterworld is a movie definitely worth watching (it's an eye opener) and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection (if you haven't already done so)!
Strongly recommended along with the Mad Max trilogy, The Postman, Judge Dredd, and the Blood of Heroes (starring Rutger Hauer).
Definitely an enjoyably movie.
Waterworld is not a bad a movie at all,and certainly deserves much better respect.Kevin Costner,Dennis Hopper and Jeanne Tripplehorn played their roles excelently. The little girl,Tina Majorino, was'nt bad either. But all of us fans are wondering,WHY OH WHY, haven't they released an uncut special extended edition yet!So much of the movie have been cut off!But there are many movies getting a remake,so there's hope still.
